"The proposed projects include improvements designed to connect city neighborhoods and make roadways safer for pedestrians, cyclists and those using alternative modes of transportation.

The city’s Department of Planning and Development on Monday unveiled the final version of its plan to make city streets more welcoming to people using modes of transportation other than cars.

The “Great Streets Initiative,” which was announced in draft form last year, includes 75 miles of proposed projects.

“This plan is a guide to build a city that is more equitable, more sustainable and more liveable,” Bonnie Nickerson, Providence’s director of planning, said during an event held to unveil the plan Monday afternoon."
