On March 17, the Ohio Department of Transportation’s new Region 8 Mobility Solution Center (R8MSC) in Perry County had its soft opening and began fielding phone calls. On Thursday, June 17, the R8MSC held its grand opening at its offices on the Hocking College Perry Campus, located at 5454 state Route 37 East in New Lexington.
Perry County Mobility Manager Lisa Leckrone explained that the center serves an eight-county region in southeastern Ohio, comprising Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry and Washington counties. Its aim is to find solutions for residents throughout the region who are facing challenges getting from point A to point B.
“Our service is as a mobility solution center, so we provide resolution to transportation barriers,” she said. A common need, she said, is transportation to and from medical appointments, but the center can also help with getting people to and from destinations such as the grocery store, the bank, a job, school, the post office, the library, the voting booth, or a recreation site.
